“Apt Pupil” has a great premise, one that would make you think it’s a winner. Based on a Novella by Stephen King, a young boy, played by Brad Renfro, discovers an older man living in his neighborhood is a former Nazi SS officer who had command over a grisly concentration camp during WWII.
The boy confronts the soldier, played by Ian McKellan, and gets him to recant some of his horrific tales. About midway through however, the film gets a little silly, or, Hollywood-like as I call it. The boy and the soldier become friends, then an unrealistic chain of events unfolds and then…save yourself the trouble, say NEIN!!! To Apt Pupil.
