Premiering as a part of the Shorts: Art and Soul programme at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, the short film “Thirsty” is a visually great journey about a dried-up old seafarer (Rob Nilsson) in a tattered suit, wandering across an apocalyptic desert.
This could be considered a music video by some, set to Alexis Harte’s song Thirsty, but it is a short film. Told without dialogue and just set to the music, it’s a compelling four-minute journey. The story could have been told in so many different ways, which makes the song so interesting. Though, the path director Josh Peterson chooses makes for a great four minutes.
I spoke with writer/director Josh Peterson, composer Alexis Harte and lead actor Rob Nilsson for their film.
We chat about filming in the desert, the suit and the limited team for the short film. Josh Peterson also talks about incorporating an orange sky in the film and where that was from. We also talk about creating the song and then interpreting the song, as well as the film’s premiere.
There’s more in the fun conversation, too. You can watch it above on YouTube or go down below to listen to it.
You can watch ‘Thirsty’ on Tribeca at Home through June 22 by purchasing a Shorts Pass, and more information can be found here.
