Universe Pictures and Director Jaze Bordeaux are promoting their 2024 film “EFC,” now currently available to watch on Tubi and YouTube’s “Cinema Cinemas” channel. The film is an adrenaline-fueled story centering on women’s mixed martial arts. The film’s press defines it as a movie that “defies genre conventions, blending elements of arthouse, drama and sport cinema to create a wholly unique cinematic experience.”
The film community celebrates “EFC” for redefining sports storytelling, with 34 film festival award wins, among them ‘Best Feature Film’ and ‘Best Director’ awards at several international festivals. Alongside Jaze Bordeaux, Wayne Wells co-directs the film. Wells’ previous independent production, “The Fight Machine,” was a nominee for ‘Best Stunt Coordination’ at the Canadian Screen Awards in 2023.
Explosive Action and Self-Discovery
The film stars Karlee Rose as Cassidy Jones, reigning MMA champion, who must face Alexa Star (Kathryn Aboya) in an explosive showdown that rocks the EFC, with the sport’s future at stake. According to the film’s EPK, “EFC” is a powerful exploration of self-discovery. It was inspired by one of the most iconic and controversial moments in the history of MMA, the infamous post-fight brawl between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor at UFC 229.
“EFC” is a Canadian production, and boasts its filming location in Toronto, ON as the “perfect backdrop” for the emotional sports story. Jason Romolo is the film’s cinematopher, known for “Growing” (2018) and “Look at those Eyes” (2011), himself the winner ‘Best Cinematographer’ at the Canadian Cinematography Awards for “EFC” last year. Along with Aboya and Rose, the film also stars Avaah Blackwell, Alex Cruz, Andrea DrePaul, Stephanie Jones, and Richard Zeppieri.
