Actor/director David Bianchi, star of the HBO show “Westworld” (and recently with a role in DC Comic’s ”Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn”) releases his third spoken word film with “I Can’t Breathe”—a tribute to the current Civil Rights movement in America.
As with his two previous efforts (“You Can’t Hear Me” and “Screams”), Bianchi highlights, with spoken word, issues that are important to not just the actor, but America, as this reawakening of the Civil Rights movement occurs in the wake of the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota Police.
Bianchi’s spoken word here is, as usual, lyrical; but there’s an immediacy to his tone that is palpable and real. There’s sadness and pain, and it’s unmistakable, the actor’s passion for the project. He speaks of the conditions that led to the death of Floyd, the arrests of the officers responsible, and the history of discrimination that causes pain in the African American community.
Bianchi does a good job at toeing the line of commenting on the issues at hand and walking hand-in-hand with them, speaking both in spectator and first person account, ultimately entreating change for the sake of humanity.
