Alex Noyer’s ‘Sound of Violence’ is a film that beautifully combines murder and music in a horror film that has a great, bold vision. (Read my review from SXSW here.) It can be best described as an elevator pitch of a story about a woman who makes music through her murders.

The main character, Alexis (Jasmin Savoy Brown), has the gift of synesthesia (where two senses are connected). In this case, Alexis is able to see intense sounds in the form of colour. This happened when she killed her father after he killed the rest of the family. That’s when she learned that when she murders, these colours are at their most beautiful.

After premiering at SXSW in March, “Sound of Violence” is releasing today on VOD platforms. For the occasion, here’s my conversation with Alex Noyer from SXSW in time for the release. We discuss Alex’s love for horror and music, adapting the short film, the sound design in the film and how immersive it is, depicting the colours and synesthesia and Daphne Qin Wu’s cinematography, as well as some of the murder contraptions and the great music in the film. There’s more, too, and you can watch the conversation directly below.
