We’re weeks away from Spooky Movie Season, and “Buzzkill” will serve as a great appetizer.

This animated short clocks in at five minutes, without a single wasted moment. Filmmaker Peter Ahern handles all facets; writing, directed, animation, and voice. The production is excellent from every side. The story, while quick, will have you completely invested from start to finish.

Rick and Becky make a cute couple

Rick (voiced by Ahern) and Becky (voiced by Kelly McCormack) have concluded a seemingly successful first date. The pair have awkward banter as each attempts to figure the other out. It’s going well until Rick leans over for a kiss.

What could possibly go wrong?

What I loved most about “Buzzkill” is the great animation of the two characters, and how each voice actor portrays them. The colors and dialogue pop. These simple animations sound and act real.

Buzzkill delivers the horror

The voices bring personality to Rick and Becky. They become real people with individual backstories; both good and bizarre.

We’ve covered other horror shorts, and this one is one of the best. “Buzzkill” is a digestible watch, and something horror fans of all ages and levels can easily handle and enjoy.
