I’ve known of this film for 30 years. In a popular episode of Seinfeld, the gang is en route to the theater to see it. That’s the extent of my knowledge of it.

Plan 9 from Outer Space” may be more synonymous with Seinfeld than anything else. It’s a 1957 sci-fi horror film that’s been billed by many (Jerry included) as being the worst movie of all time.

You can find it online in numerous places. Don’t pay for it – its free. The run time of 80 minutes is digestible, if the special effects and acting are not. It was written and directed by Ed Wood. It’s worth it for the laughs alone.

plan 9…the one that worked

It’s an indie film, and boasts a large cast. Most of the names are unknown to me, though many are really cool. Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Duke Moore, Tor Johnson, Dudley Manlove, Maila Nurmi. The film also features Bela Lugosi in his final performance.

I laughed out loud at an early scene. A pair of airplane pilots see UFO’s and act so casual, its like they see this every day. The pilot asks the stewardess if the passengers have seen them. She replies no – most are asleep. Though its clearly broad daylight out.

Plan 9 from Outer Space” is a really goofy movie. Its science fiction from the 1950s (need I say more). They’re trying so they get points for that. And I would love to go watch this with Jerry et al.
